The Talimena Scenic Drive is more than a breathtaking panorama. It is a gateway into an area filled with unique opportunities for families, adventure seekers and leisure travelers.

Of course the Drive makes for a wonderful journey whether you travel in the largest of RV's, a motorcycle or the family mini-van. But all along the way are wonderful adventures just waiting to be explored.


Outdoor Adventure

The Talimena Scenic Drive and the surrounding Ouachita National Forest is a unique ecosystem formed an unusual set of geologic and geographic circumstances. Native American Experience

The Native American Experience is one of the outstanding learning opportunities along the Talimena Scenic Drive, including the Wheelock Academy near Millerton, Oklahoma. Wheelock Academy is a unique symbol of almost two centuries of commitment to education by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

But the entire area is filled with numerous museums, historical locations and interpretive centers. There are several places where you can learn about the people and cultures that existed from 100 years ago to 1000 years ago or more!

You can shop and dig for quartz crystals in Mt. Ida and the Crater of Diamonds State Park near Murfreesboro lets you dig for diamonds for free!
