The Talimena Scenic Drive and the surrounding
Ouachita National Forest is a unique ecosystem formed an unusual
set of geologic and geographic circumstances. Because of this you
can see and explore a wide variety of trees, plant life, birds,

After the scenic touring and hiking, fishing
is probably the most popular sport in the area. There are several
lakes scattered around the area that offer major lake water sports

The Native American Experience is one of the
outstanding learning opportunities along the Talimena Scenic Drive,
including the Wheelock Academy near
Millerton, Oklahoma. Wheelock Academy is a unique symbol of almost
two centuries of commitment to education by the Choctaw
Nation of Oklahoma.
But the entire area is filled with numerous
museums, historical locations and interpretive centers. There are
several places where you can learn about the people and cultures
that existed from 100 years ago to 1000 years ago or more!
