Friends of Peter Conser Historic Site
"Friends of Peter Conser Historic Site" got together and started "Friends" in January of 2005.
The annual quilt show at the Conser House was ran by a group of ladies who disbanded after the quilt show in October 2004. "Friends" took up the challenge of the quilt show and in October 2005 held it’s first quilt show.
"Friends" holds a Spring and a Fall event.
The Spring event can be a yard sale or if available the Heavener High School Drama students doing skits on the Life and Times of Peter Conser.
Our Fall event is the Quilt show. We have found the Quilt Show along with the Antique Tractor Show and a Style Show with clothing shown on models of the era, will bring people to the Conser House and the Barn (which is the historic value on the property). The "Friends" group has recently had the Barn historically repaired.
During the quilt and tractor show we have the Hoop & Can, Tom Walkers (stilts), Washtub & Rub Boards, Grist Mill to grind corn & make cornmeal to make fresh cornbread and Bessie the Cow for young & old alike to try their hand at milking her. It’s such a joy to watch the young children trying their hand at all of the above. The older generation reminisce about how they played or work with the Grist Mill and glad they didn’t have to milk cows any more.
This year we are adding Lawnmower Races and if it goes well, we will make it a separate event.
