The Peter Conser Home is the 1894 home of the
Choctaw leader of the Lighthorsemen law enforcement agency. It
contains furnishing and artifacts from 1894-1910.
Born in the Choctaw Nation in the 1850s, Peter Conser was a long-time
law-enforcement official among the Choctaws, serving as deputy-sheriff,
sheriff and leader of the Lighthorsemen. He also served in the
Choctaw Legislature. Conser and the men who served under his direction
did much to ensure peace among the Indians. His home has been restored
to illustrate the life as it was in the Choctaw Nation before statehood.
The house is located five miles south of Heavener and three miles
west of Hodgen. Open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from
10am to 5pm and on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. Highway signs mark the
way to the historical home. At the town of Hodgen turn west on
Conser road at Summerfield go east. From Cedar Lake Equestrian
Camp take trail 1 to 1a.
