Cedar Lake is nestled between the ridges in
the foreground. Cedar Lake was built by the Civilian Conservation
Corps (CCC) in the early 1930s. This was one of many projects completed
in Oklahoma by this federal work program. Between 1933 and 1942,
7,600 men from the state of Oklahoma and 75,000 men from Arkansas
were enrolled in this program. Many of the original structures built
at Cedar Lake still serve the public today such as a bathhouse and
two picnic shelters.
Cedar Lake Recreation Area includes camping, picnicking, swimming,
fishing and hiking facilities which are managed by the Forest Service/Hook-ups
for recreation vehicles and equestrian camping facilities are among
the newest additions to the recreation area. Forty-four miles of
horse trails give visiting equestrians a great opportunity to explore
the Ouachita Mountains.
