The fall foliage season along the Talimena National Scenic Byway is in the early stages with plenty of green leaves. At Talimena State Park, leaves have just started turning colors with slight spots of yellow. Half of Lake Wister State Park trees are starting to show yellow with hints of orange and brown. Ouachita National Park foliage has just started to turn fall colors. Typically, foliage can be viewed at its peak from the last week of October through the first week of November.
Travel a short drive to the Talimena National Scenic Byway. Explore the golden valleys of a majestic byway and discover historic towns along the way. The Talimena Scenic Drive offers you more than 50 miles of the most breathtaking vistas our states have to offer. Plus, surrounding the Talimena Scenic Drive, you will find historic gateway towns with open arms and outstanding events to fill your days.

The Talimena Scenic drive winds 54 miles along the crest of Rich Mountain and Winding Stair Mountain in the Ouachita National Forest (pronounced Wash-i-tah). If you can resist stopping to enjoy the many vistas and attractions along the way, the route takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to drive. A leisurely drive can take all day.
